Pilot project BMR — recycling lithium-ion batteries
When BASF and Tenova Advanced Technologies entered into a joint development agreement for the efficient recycling of lithium-ion batteries during 2022, we had no idea it would be so important to us.
The cooperation between these companies resulted in the pilot project BMR, which is being built in Schwarzheide, Germany, and aims to recover and recycle valuable metals from batteries for electric cars.
The use of recycled metals for the production of new batteries can reduce the impact of CO2 emissions by approximately 25%.
And now on to the implementation itself. The work was divided into two packages and was produced as a SKI unit, that is, to be produced here in the Czech Republic and then shipped in logical units to Germany.
Package one contained three SKIDs all ATEX and package two contained 4 SKIDs in regular design.
Production and assembly of SKIDs took place in Hradec Králové in the premises of ZVU under the auspices of Works L&W group s.r.o..
The concept of electro was the same for all SKIDs. An MCC switchboard located outside the SKID from which the double-stranded wiring ran to the interlock box and from the crossover box all elements on the SKID were fed.
The MaR concept is also the same for all SKIDs, the MaR switchboard, like the MCC, was located outside the SKID. From the MaR switchboard, the wiring went to the RIO cabinet, and then to the elements themselves on the SKID. RIO and MaR switchboards included the SIMATIC ŠS, including the visualization panel on the door.
As can be seen from the description above, the scope of our work was comprehensive. Apart from the supply of field instrumentation elements and PLC software equipment, our company realized everything necessary.
After packing all the SKIDs and shipping them to Germany, our work continued directly in Schwarzheide, where the recycling process was assembled, tested and refined.
worth noting
When we succeed, we like to brag
We have successfully implemented over 6,000 projects in the energy sector, chemical industry, water management and other industries.
